Meowse
The cat that ate your mouse.
Keyboard-driven clicking, scrolling and dragging, built on first-class Apple APIs. Your hands never leave the keyboard: Meowse finds every clickable element on screen, labels it, and turns your next few keystrokes into a click, a right-click, a drag or a scroll.
Clicking anything, in three keystrokes
- ⌘Levery clickable thing wears a two-letter label
- slabels that don’t start with s disappear
- dclicked, on the keystroke, no cursor journey
Four ways in
Hint mode
Labels appear on every clickable element across every visible app. Type the label to click, or type what the thing says and press Enter. ⌥ right-clicks, ⇧ double-clicks, ⌃ picks up a drag, ⌘ moves the cursor and nothing else.
Grid mode
Any pixel in three keystrokes: a 32×20 grid of two-letter cells, then Space for the centre or U I O J K L for a corner. Every grid click is learned as a hint for that app next time.
Scroll mode
J K scroll, H L go sideways, D U move by pages, hold F to go faster. Scrollable areas get numbered tags, and it falls back to the focused window in apps with no accessibility tree.
Free mode
H J K L move the pointer with acceleration, S D F change speed, A slows it down. Space clicks, R right-clicks, E double-clicks.
What it doesn’t do
- No screenshots, and no OCR of your screen.
- No cloud. Nothing about what you click leaves the machine.
- No analytics, no account, no network calls at all.
- Settings live in
~/.config/meowse/as plain JSON you can read.
How it works
- Element discovery
- AXUIElement, batched attribute fetches
- Occlusion and z-order
- CGWindowList
- Key capture
- CGEventTap
- Clicks, scrolls, drags
- CGEvent posted at HID level, tagged so they can be told from your real mouse
- Overlay
- A non-activating NSPanel per screen
- Settings, tutorial, stats
- SwiftUI
Install it
git clone <repo> meowse && cd meowse ./make-app.sh open build/Meowse.app
macOS 12 or newer, universal binary. Grant Accessibility when it asks — System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility — and Meowse lives in the menu bar. An eight-step tutorial opens the first time, and teaches the whole thing by making you do it.
